808 Club Pattaya: A Walking Street InstitutionSome clubs come and go. 808 Club opened on Walking Street in 2014 and has never looked back. More than a decade on, it remains one of Pattaya's most consistently popular nightlife venues — a track record that puts it in rare company on a strip where turnover is high and staying power is hard earned.
The Name
The club takes its name from the Roland TR-808 drum machine — one of the most influential pieces of hardware in the history of electronic music. The 808's distinctive bass kick and snare are embedded in hip-hop, R&B, trap, and electronic music to an extent that most people have heard it thousands of times without realising it. Naming a club after it signals intent: this isn't a venue that treats music as background noise.
Location and Layout
808 is directly above Candy Shop on Walking Street, one of the most popular standing bars for watching the street's constant flow of characters. You arrive via escalator, which deposits you into a lounge bar with an outdoor terrace before you reach the main room.
The terrace overlooks Walking Street from a privileged position — a place to take a break from the dance floor, have a drink, or watch the action below on the large LED screens that also show live sport. A mirror-lined corridor leads through to the main room, where the dance floor runs across several levels — including a raised section directly in front of the DJ booth, with stepped areas around the edges and the bar at the lowest level. It's a layout that keeps the energy focused without making the space feel cramped.
Production
The club has an excellent sound system and impressive laser and light effects, complemented by large LED screens. The production values have always been a priority — when 808 opened it was described as having probably the best sound system on the Eastern Seaboard, with a level of bass that visitors noted physically. Whether or not that claim has dated, the setup remains well above average for Pattaya.
International Appearances
Over the years 808 has pulled in a notable list of international names, and not just from the DJ circuit. Hip-hop artists Wiz Khalifa, Tyga, and Offset have all appeared at the venue, which for a Pattaya nightclub is a genuinely impressive booking roster. These are artists who sell out arenas and headline major festivals, and their appearances at 808 reflect both the club's hip-hop identity and its ability to attract talent that most Walking Street venues wouldn't come close to booking.
On the DJ side, 808 has also hosted DJ Snake, Mash N Kutcher, DJ Angelo, DJ Cut Killer, and Leeroy Thornhill. DJ Snake played the venue in May 2015, less than a year after opening. The Leeroy Thornhill booking remains a talking point among electronic music fans — Thornhill was a core member of The Prodigy throughout the 1990s, one of the biggest electronic acts in history, known for his distinctive stage presence and shuffling dance style that became inseparable from the band's live shows.
Music
808 is the closest thing Pattaya has to a dedicated hip-hop and urban music venue at scale. The music runs through hip-hop, R&B, and trap as its core identity, with EDM and commercial dance appearing throughout the night and the genre mix shifting depending on the event. It sits in a different lane to Republic Club's more EDM focus — the two venues complement each other rather than directly competing, which is part of why both have remained relevant on the same strip.
Visiting 808
The club opens around 9–10pm but fills properly after midnight. Entry is typically free, with revenue driven by bar spend rather than door charges. The crowd is a mix of tourists, expats, Bangkok visitors, and Thai clubbers, with a notably high proportion of younger Thai patrons who have made it something of a favourite.
The terrace is one of 808's most underrated features — genuinely useful on a busy night when the main floor gets intense, and one of the better vantage points on Walking Street for people-watching.
