The Lowdown
Horizon Rooftop Bar & Restaurant, Hilton PattayaHorizon Rooftop Bar & Restaurant is one of Pattaya's best-known high-rise venues, occupying the 34th floor of the Hilton Pattaya directly above Central Pattaya. With a spacious open-air terrace overlooking Pattaya Bay and the city, it's a classic sunset destination - and remains one of the most impressive places in town to watch the sun go down over the bay.
Despite its five-star hotel setting and premium prices, Horizon isn't really an intimidating or exclusive-feeling venue. The modern rooftop is polished without being excessively formal, attracting a broad mix of visitors rather than just the younger, club-oriented crowd. House music and a daily DJ add atmosphere in the evening, but Horizon remains primarily a rooftop bar and restaurant rather than a nightclub.
The Horizon Experience
The main attraction is the large outdoor terrace, with seating spread across several areas and particularly sought-after tables around the perimeter. Some sections are slightly raised, providing a little extra separation and good sightlines across the bay.
The terrace is open to the sky and doesn't have the enclosed glass walls found at some newer rooftop venues. Despite this, the venue doesn't appear to suffer from the obvious wind issues that can sometimes affect high-rise rooftops.
There is also an enclosed dining area towards the rear, but for most visitors the outdoor terrace is the reason to come.
Horizon feels lively and social, particularly around sunset, but it isn't a full-on party venue. The mixed-age crowd and relatively relaxed atmosphere make it a more broadly appealing choice than some of Pattaya's newer, more club-focused rooftops.
The View
The view is the star of the show.
From the open-air terrace, Horizon looks across virtually the whole of Pattaya Bay, with extensive views of the city, coastline and Koh Larn. The elevated position gives a particularly impressive perspective over the boats in the bay and the Pattaya skyline.
It's not literally a 360-degree rooftop, but the panorama is extensive enough that the distinction doesn't really matter. The best views are naturally from the outer edge of the terrace, so these are the seats most worth requesting if the view is your priority.
Sunset is the obvious highlight, with the sun dropping over the bay and the city gradually lighting up afterwards.
Music and Atmosphere
Horizon usually has a DJ every evening from around 6:30pm until 10:30pm, with house music providing the soundtrack.
The music adds energy without trying to turn Horizon into a club. The overall atmosphere remains more sophisticated rooftop bar than nightlife venue, making it suitable for drinks and conversation as well as a more lively evening out.
When to go
For the full Horizon experience, arrive before sunset.
The daily Sunset Session runs from 4pm–7pm, with a buy-one-get-one-free cocktail promotion usually available during this period. This makes the early evening particularly attractive if you're mainly interested in the views and drinks.
Arriving in good time also gives you a better chance of getting one of the more desirable outdoor tables before the terrace becomes busier around sunset.
The DJ starts at 6:30pm, so the atmosphere can transition naturally from sunset drinks into a livelier evening without having to change venues.
Drinks and dining
Horizon is primarily an experience destination, so you don't need to come here specifically for dinner. Cocktails are generally around ฿300–400, with the daily Sunset Session making the 4pm–7pm period particularly good value.
There is a full food menu if you want to make an evening of it, with many main courses in the region of ฿750–1,200+, as well as lighter bar food and snacks.
For most visitors, however, the combination of the rooftop setting, sunset and drinks is likely to be the main attraction.
Horizon Dress code
The dress code is best described as smart casual. Beachwear and sportswear are not appropriate, and men should avoid tank tops. You don't need to dress formally, but this is a five-star hotel rooftop rather than a casual beach bar.
Reservations
Reservations are recommended, particularly if you want a good outdoor table around sunset.
For the best choice of seating, booking at least a day in advance is advisable. If you're mainly interested in the view, it's worth specifically requesting outdoor seating when making your reservation. Booking is handled through the Hilton website (link above).
