The Lowdown

Trench Town Rasta Bar on Soi Buakhao has become one of Pattaya's most distinctive live music bars thanks to its strong reggae identity and laid-back atmosphere - something that sets it apart from the city's many rock-focused venues. Opened in 2017, the bar pays homage to Jamaican culture, with décor, music and nightly live performances centred around reggae (plus some ska and rocksteady) rather than the mainstream cover-band playlists found elsewhere on the strip.

*Note: there is also a Trench Town Rasta Bar on nearby LK Metro: this page covers the Soi Buakhao branch, although the LK Metro branch is virtually the same.

Live performances feature classic reggae tracks from artists like Jimmy Cliff, Toots & the Maytals, Peter Tosh, Marcia Griffiths, UB40 and Bob Marley & the Wailers - a setlist that goes well beyond the Marley standards many people might expect. The musicians are talented and the crowd regularly joins in, with song requests common and dancing breaking out as the night progresses. While the venue stays heavily reggae-focused, bands occasionally drift into more familiar pop or rock territory, so don't be too surprised if a crowd-pleasing detour appears mid-set. It's a minor footnote in an otherwise genre-committed lineup.

The bar is on the smaller side, which can mean it gets crowded, though this adds to rather than detracts from the atmosphere. It's worth noting that the volume can get high - this is a live music bar first and a conversation spot second, so if a quiet drink with friends is the priority, it may not be the right fit. At least when a band is playing. Prices are pretty reasonable, the staff are friendly, and the overall vibe is warm and welcoming.

The venue's reggae-centric identity has earned it a niche following among visitors looking for a more laid-back vibe. A good time to visit is between 10pm and midnight, when the music is in full swing and the atmosphere peaks. For anyone who finds Pattaya's rock-heavy nightlife a little samey, Trench Town offers something genuinely different.
