The Lowdown
Matador Buakhao is one of Soi Buakhao's most prominent live music venues, occupying a large air-conditioned space that sets it apart from many of the street's smaller, open-fronted bars. Previously known as The Warehouse, it has reinvented itself as one of the area's go-to spots for classic rock and heavy metal, drawing a consistent crowd of expats, tourists and Pattaya regulars who know where to find good live music.The bands perform nightly and cover a wide range — classic rock, 80s anthems and heavier material — with the quality of musicianship very high. The sound system is built for volume, and that's deliberate. This isn't background music.
Beyond the music, Matador Buakhao has a social side that keeps people staying longer than they may have planned. Pool tables, a lively crowd and coyote dancers later in the evening give it more going on than a straight music venue. The atmosphere builds as Soi Buakhao gets busier, with the later hours generally offering the best energy.
A good choice for anyone who wants their night to involve actual rock music rather than a cover band going through the motions.
