If you like your coffee with a side of vinyl, vintage hi-fi and live music, JOSH cof and jazz is well worth knowing about. Tucked away in the Duck Square development on South Pattaya Road, this distinctive cafe and bar combines a serious vinyl collection and vintage sound system with coffee, food, drinks and regular live performances.

Despite the name, JOSH isn't exclusively about jazz. Depending on the night, the music can range from pop jazz and easy listening to soul and blues, with live saxophone, bands, DJs and curated vinyl sessions all part of the mix.

The vinyl & sound
Music is at the heart of JOSH, and this isn't simply a cafe with a few records on the wall.

The venue has an extensive collection of vinyl, with shelves packed with jazz classics and other recordings, including international artists as well as Thai pressings. Vinyl records are also available to buy, with the venue regularly posting new arrivals and priced records for sale.

For serious music fans, the hardware is just as interesting. JOSH showcases vintage hi-fi equipment including Marantz 7 and Marantz 8 components, a Garrard 401 turntable, JBL 4343 speakers and Klipsch La Scala speakers.

The result is part listening bar, part record collection and part living room — somewhere you can simply sit down, order a coffee or drink and listen.

Live music
Live music is a major part of the evening experience, although the programme isn't limited to jazz.

JOSH's promotional material describes its musical offerings with terms including pop jazz, easy listening and soul/blues, while individual nights can feature saxophone solos, live bands and DJ sets.

Thursday, Friday and Saturday are particularly associated with live music and evening programming, but line-ups and performance times can change, so it's worth checking JOSH's social media before making a special trip.

A living-room atmosphere
The venue describes its atmosphere as being like "our living room", and the interior certainly has that feel.

Warm wood, plants, rugs, soft lighting and comfortable seating are combined with walls of vinyl and a collection of music-related and vintage objects. There's also an upright piano, guitars, drums and other touches that reinforce the musical theme.

The decor has plenty of character, including movie posters, framed portraits of jazz legends and an eclectic collection of furniture. During the day, JOSH feels more like a relaxed cafe; after dark, the lighting and bar create a much more intimate listening-lounge atmosphere.

It's also a venue with plenty of photo opportunities, although the music and sound system are the real reason to visit.

Coffee, food & drinks
Coffee is central to the daytime offering, with a range of coffees alongside non-coffee drinks and soft drinks.

The kitchen serves Thai and international food, snacks and dishes suitable for settling in for the evening rather than simply grabbing a quick coffee.

Later in the day, the cafe becomes a full bar, with beer, wine and cocktails available.

JOSH cof and jazz is one for music lovers rather than just another Pattaya cafe. The combination of a substantial vinyl collection, genuine vintage hi-fi equipment, live music and a warm, eclectic interior gives it considerably more personality than its cafe classification might suggest.
