Pattaya is getting a new addition to its event calendar this August, with the inaugural Pattaya Sand & Art Festival 2026 taking place along Pattaya Beach from August 27–31.
The event will be held in front of Central Pattaya and is being presented as a new kind of beachside art and creative event for the city. Admission is free.
At this stage, detailed information about the festival programme is still limited, but Pattaya City says the event will feature contemporary sand art installations, live sand art performances, workshops and other creative activities.
The theme for the first festival is “From One Grain, Endless Creativity”, with the concept using a single grain of sand as the starting point for artworks inspired by Pattaya and the four regions of Thailand.
Promotional material now shows five major sand-art installations forming the centrepiece of the event, with designs representing Pattaya and different regions of Thailand.
Rather than being simply a traditional sand-sculpture display, the organisers describe the festival as combining sand with natural materials, design elements and creative presentation technology. Exactly what the finished installations will look like remains to be seen, but there appears to be considerably more to the event than simply building elaborate sandcastles on the beach.
Evening shows and activities
The evening programme looks set to be one of the more interesting aspects of the festival.
Promotional material highlights both video mapping and a light-and-sound show, using projections, lighting and other effects to bring the sand installations to life after dark.
The currently advertised showtimes include video mapping at 7:30pm and 8:30pm, while the light-and-sound presentations are scheduled for 6:30pm and 8:00pm.
There will also be live sand-art performances, workshops and creative activities suitable for people of all ages. One of the more unusual activities is “Sand in a Bottle”, where visitors can create their own small sand-art souvenir using coloured sand.
With the beach, sculptures and evening lighting all forming part of the experience, the festival should offer something quite different from Pattaya’s usual event calendar.
The festival is being organised by Pattaya City together with the Pattaya Business and Tourism Association of Chonburi, with Central Pattaya also involved. It is the first edition of the event, so there isn’t yet a history of previous festivals to go by.
Visitors are also being encouraged to use Central Pattaya’s parking facilities to help reduce traffic congestion around the beach.
Another side of Pattaya
The Sand & Art Festival is another small example of the direction Pattaya has been taking with its tourism and events calendar.
Alongside the city’s famous nightlife and entertainment, there has been an increasing emphasis on sporting events, cultural activities, festivals and attractions aimed at a broader range of visitors. This particular event is explicitly designed to be suitable for people of all ages, making it an easy addition to the calendar for families as well as tourists simply looking for something different.
It’s probably too early to know whether Pattaya Sand & Art Festival will become a major annual event, but the first edition is certainly worth keeping an eye on.
